Ekaterina Mamontova
The Windows

Exhibition dates: 27 June-9 August 2020

Ekaterina Mamontova is a photographer based in Unit 0, Studio 0-54.
The Windows is a series of photographs exploring the connection between man-made structures and nature.

In August 2017 and August 2019 Ekaterina Mamontova visited the Karelian Isthmus region, an area situated between the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga in north western Russia.

Here she discovered a former working barn, a building steadily crumbling away, which had been left untouched since Soviet Union state farming ceased in the 1990’s. Ekaterina saw the barn’s windows as ‘survivors’, gradually engaged in a process of merging with nature, with wild plants, trash and sunlight all combining to create their own individuality.

Ekaterina studied journalism at St Petersburg State University, Russia. She developed an interest in photography as a visual language in recent years whilst living in London. Follow Ekaterina on Instagram @garbauske
