Preview: Saturday 8 September 2018, 6.30-8.30pm Exhibition Dates: 8-23 September 2018 Alice Neave (7-119) presents new large format paintings on canvas in our inaugural programme of exhibitions located on the ground floor of Unit 8. Although hinting at flora, fauna and still life, it’s the painting medium that has become the main protagonist of Neave’s work. These ‘portraits of paint, charcoal and ink’ give a life to the medium as the subject; they have weight and physicality, form and shape built up with texture and viscosity, examining the relationship between the background and foreground. “It is what I put onto my canvas that remains my constant muse and takes precedence in my artistic process.” For Alice this new series documents a personal and geographical journey. With a colour palette influenced by a recent six-month residency in the French region of Poitou-Charentes the work explores themes of femininity, strength and freedom.
